Chocolate Chip Scones

Written by Helen Ellis

Do you have left over chocolate from Easter, or just fancy doing some baking?  Try this recipe, it is delicious!  If you have spare chocolate from Easter just break it up into little pieces and use it instead of the chocolate chips.

This is a really easy recipe ( my favourite kind ) the scones are amazing eaten a little warm too... have fun.

Ingredients
Makes: 6-8 scones

  • 225g (8oz) self-raising flour
  • 85g (3oz) caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon good quality cocoa powder
  • 60g (2oz) butter
  • 60g (2oz) chocolate buttons
  • 100ml milk

Method
Prep: 15min  ›  Cook: 15min  ›  Ready in: 30min

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Put the flour, sugar, baking powder and cocoa powder in a large mixing bowl and stir together with your hands until it's a uniform colour.
  2. Add butter and work it in with hands until it becomes like breadcrumbs. Stir in the chocolate chips. Slowly add the milk a bit at a time, while working with your hands until a dough forms - if you use to much milk and it becomes sticky just add a little flour to bring it back.
  3. Then lightly flour your work surface and roll out to about 2cm thick and then cut. Place on baking tray and brush with milk.
  4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, test with a toothpick or skewer, and if it comes out clean then they are cooked. Lastly and most importantly.

Enjoy!!
